Katerina Gimon is an award-winning Canadian composer, improvisor, and experimental vocalist based in Vancouver, whos catelouge includes works for voice, choir, electronics, solo instruments, and chamber ensembles. She has been named as one of Canada's hot 30 classical musicians under 30. Her music has earned several honours including a 2016 SOCAN Young Composers award (1st prize in the Godfrey Ridout Category), 2015-16 Arcady Emerging Artist award, and the 2014 IAWM Ellen Taaffe Zwilich prize. Most recently, Katerina was selected as one of six representatives to the ISCM Canadian Section for World Music Days 2018 in Beijing and was named the winner of the 2018 Open Ears Festival Emerging Composer Competition.
A prominent emerging composer out of Vancouver, Gimon's works often employ extended techniques such as overtone singing, freely repeated phrases within sections, and other graphic score notation that is combined with traditional choral notations to create unique textures and moods not often found in the traditional choral repertoire.
